Colombia Earthquake Damage Estimated at $9.6 Billion

The preliminary economic damage from a powerful earthquake in Colombia has reached approximately $9.6 billion, according to President Abelardo de la Espriella. The 7.4 magnitude earthquake caused an estimated 30 trillion Colombian pesos in losses, equivalent to about $9.58 billion. Officials have stressed that the figure remains provisional and could rise as authorities complete detailed assessments of damaged buildings, infrastructure and economic activity.
