Once upon a time, children were fed or put to sleep by telling fairy tales, reciting rhymes. Those days are gone. Nowadays, children are distracted by cartoons or games on mobile phones. As a result, these children are becoming extremely addicted to mobile and electronic devices.

Now, mobile phones are at the top of the list of children's toys. Watching games or listening to songs on mobile phones to fulfill children's desires has become a kind of habit. Due to the radiation of mobile phones, children are becoming more dependent on mobile phones, especially in cities, as they are confined to their homes due to the lack of playgrounds. Many parents are buying smart phones on demand for their children.

Expert doctors say that this mobile addiction of young children is destroying their intelligence on the one hand, and their desire to work is also decreasing alarmingly. Excessive use of cellphones is hindering the mental and physical development of children. In this age of information technology, children are becoming increasingly fascinated and addicted to the virtual world rather than the real world.

They spend hours and hours glued to their Android mobiles and electronic devices.

Due to this over-addiction alone, children are facing various physical problems. There are also many complaints that not only in the cities, but now in the villages, parents have to buy expensive mobile sets to pay for school fees for children.

According to UNICEF, one in every three internet users in the world is a child. Every day, 175,000, that is, a new child is connecting to the internet every half second.

25 percent of Facebook users are under 10 years old. 90 percent of all social media users, including Facebook, are between the ages of 18 and 29.

In Bangladesh, the number of users, including children, is constantly increasing due to the spread of the internet. According to BTRC data, a large number of children aged 15 to 19 in Bangladesh regularly use the internet, a large part of whom are connected to various social media sites.

Abul Hossain, a resident of Khilgaon in the capital and a job seeker, said, "My child's morning starts with his mobile phone. I can't control it in any way. If you don't give him a mobile phone, he doesn't want to eat, he cries. Then he has to call me. What should I do? In fact, the children can't go out.

How can they spend a long time sitting at home? They spend their time either watching TV or playing games on their phones.'

Maman Hossain, a student of Motijheel Ideal School, said, 'I watch him while eating, I watch him while sleeping. I like watching him, so I watch him. I sit at home and use Facebook on my mobile phone or play games.'

Arif Hossain is a fifth-grade student at Motijheel Boys' High School. His father, Khairul Islam, said that Arif's previous routine has been destroyed. His dependence on mobile phones has increased manifold. Earlier, it was part of his routine. Now it is not. Now he sleeps late at night, wakes up late in the morning. When he wakes up, he looks for his mobile phone. When I say something, he says, 'I can't even monitor them.' When I ask him to put his mobile phone away, he replies, 'Then play with me.' But we can't give it time either.'

According to ophthalmologists, children's mobile phone addiction is very harmful to the body. The rays emitted from mobile phones greatly damage children's eyesight. Children who play video games on mobile phones for five to six hours a day will have eye problems at a very young age. The day is not far off when mobile phones will be identified as more harmful than cigarettes.

Stating that due to excessive addiction to mobile and electronic devices, we are getting many more children's eye patients, Dr. Tariq Reza Ali, Associate Professor at Bangladesh Medical University and Vice President of Bangladesh Vitreo Retina Society, said that burning eyes, red eyes, blinking, and watery eyes are the most common complaints of children.

He said that if this is not controlled, there is a high risk of children's eye power increasing. Which is called myopia. Children affected by this disease can see close objects well but cannot see distant objects. If this problem increases, they will no longer see distant objects. They will also not be able to see vehicles coming from afar.

Former director of the National Ophthalmology Institute and Hospital, Professor Dr. Golam Mostafa said, "Continuously staring at a computer, mobile or any electronic device is harmful to the eyes of everyone, young and old. It is even more dangerous for children. Many parents think that children have fewer eye problems. With this idea, they do not even get their eyes checked. For these children, the problem then becomes more pronounced.

He said, recently, more children are coming to the hospital with eye and headache problems. The reason for this is reflective error. That is, they need glasses. "
