Gold prices in Bangladesh are trading at the latest adjusted rates on Wednesday, 19 August 2026. The price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 236,779 per bhori, including VAT, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association, or BAJUS.

The latest adjustment has attracted considerable attention among buyers, particularly those planning to purchase jewellery for weddings, family ceremonies, gifts or savings. Gold remains one of the most closely watched commodities in the local market, and even relatively modest changes in its price can influence household purchasing decisions.

Current Gold Prices

Gold is being sold on Wednesday at the increased prices set in the latest adjustment. On Saturday, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced an increase of Tk 2,158 per bhori in gold prices. The new prices became effective from 10am that day.

The current prices are:

Gold categoryPrice per bhori

22-caratTk 236,779
21-caratTk 226,165
18-caratTk 194,206
Traditional methodTk 158,630

One bhori is equivalent to 11.664 grams.

What Triggered the Latest Increase?

BAJUS said the new prices were determined after considering the overall market situation, particularly the increase in the price of Tejabi gold (pure gold) in the local market.

Local pure-gold prices play a significant role in determining retail jewellery prices. When the underlying price rises, jewellers face higher acquisition costs, prompting adjustments in the retail market.

Gold pricing, however, is influenced by a broader constellation of factors. International bullion prices, currency movements, local supply conditions, import-related costs and domestic demand can all affect the market.

22-Carat Gold at Tk 236,779 per Bhori

Under the new pricing structure, the price of one bhori, or 11.664 grams, of 22-carat gold in Bangladesh is Tk 236,779 including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold is Tk 226,165 per bhori, while 18-carat gold costs Tk 194,206. Gold sold under the traditional method is priced at Tk 158,630 per bhori.

Among these categories, 22-carat gold remains particularly important for jewellery buyers. It offers a balance between purity and durability, making it a common choice for wedding ornaments and other high-value jewellery.

The 24-carat category represents a higher degree of purity, but jewellery manufacturers generally require a certain level of alloy content to provide structural strength and durability.

Jewellery Costs May Be Higher

The published gold price should not automatically be treated as the final retail price of a piece of jewellery. Manufacturing and design charges can increase the amount payable by the customer.

BAJUS said these prices will remain effective at all jewellery establishments across the country until further notice. However, labour charges will apply depending on the design of the jewellery. Since VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, retailers cannot collect VAT separately from customers.

This distinction is important for buyers. A customer purchasing a gold necklace, ring, bracelet or other ornament needs to consider not only the weight and gold rate but also applicable making charges.

Consumers should therefore ask for a transparent breakdown of the final bill. The weight of the jewellery, purity, gold price, labour charge and VAT should be clearly understood before payment.

Prices Have Changed Within Days

The latest movement is notable because the market had witnessed a price reduction only a few days earlier.

On 14 August, BAJUS had reduced the price of gold by Tk 2,158 per bhori.

The subsequent increase of the same amount demonstrates how sensitive the domestic gold market can be to changes in underlying prices.

Gold is often regarded as a safe-haven asset during periods of economic uncertainty. Inflation, currency volatility and financial-market turbulence can increase interest in bullion. Yet gold itself is not immune to price fluctuations, making timing an important consideration for buyers and investors.

What Should Buyers Check?

Anyone planning to purchase gold should verify the latest BAJUS price before completing a transaction. The purity and weight of the jewellery should also be checked carefully.

For substantial purchases, obtaining a detailed receipt is particularly important. The receipt should ideally identify the weight, purity, base gold price, making charge and applicable taxes or other charges.

This can help prevent confusion later and provides a clear record of the transaction.

As of 19 August 2026, the official market rate places 22-carat gold at Tk 236,779 per bhori. The rate for 21-carat gold stands at Tk 226,165, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk 194,206. Gold under the traditional method is priced at Tk 158,630 per bhori.

These prices will remain in force until BAJUS announces another adjustment. For consumers, the prudent approach is therefore straightforward: check the latest rate on the day of purchase, verify the purity and weight, understand the making charge, and obtain a proper receipt.

In a market where prices can shift within days, accurate information is not merely convenient. It is an essential part of making a financially sound purchase.
