Gold prices in Bangladesh are trading at the latest rates on Wednesday, 19 August 2026. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association, or BAJUS, periodically adjusts domestic gold prices in response to movements in the international market and changes in local bullion prices.

Inside Artcle

The current price of 22-carat gold stands at Tk 236,779 per bhori, including VAT. For consumers planning wedding purchases, jewellery acquisitions, gifts or long-term savings, the latest rate remains an important reference point.

Latest Gold Prices on 19 August

Gold prices in the domestic market are being regularly increased or reduced in line with the international market. Currently, the price of the highest-quality 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 236,779 per bhori in the domestic market. This price, determined by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), became effective from 10am on 15 August.

Until a new price is announced, gold is being bought and sold across the country on Wednesday (19 August) at the latest adjusted rate.

The current gold prices are:

Gold purityPrice per bhori

22-caratTk 236,779
21-caratTk 226,165
18-caratTk 194,206
Traditional methodTk 158,630

One bhori is equivalent to 11.664 grams.

Price of 22-Carat Gold

According to the latest price list, one bhori, or 11.664 grams, of 22-carat gold jewellery costs Tk 236,779 including VAT. Previously, the price was Tk 234,621 per bhori.

The latest adjustment therefore represents an increase of Tk 2,158 per bhori.

While the increase may appear relatively modest when considered against the price of a single gram, its cumulative effect can be substantial for customers purchasing several bhori of gold.

For example, five bhori of 22-carat gold would cost Tk 1,183,895 based solely on the announced gold rate. Making charges for the jewellery would be added separately where applicable.

21-Carat and 18-Carat Gold

The price of 21-carat gold has also been set at Tk 226,165 per bhori. Meanwhile, 18-carat gold is being sold at Tk 194,206 per bhori. Gold under the traditional method has been priced at Tk 158,630 per bhori.

Carat indicates the purity level of gold. Although 24-carat gold represents the highest level of purity, jewellery is commonly manufactured using lower-carat gold because alloys can provide greater strength and durability.

In Bangladesh, 22-carat gold remains especially popular for wedding jewellery and other high-value ornaments.

Making Charges Apply to Jewellery

The published gold rate does not necessarily represent the final amount a customer will pay for a finished piece of jewellery.

BAJUS said the prices will remain effective at all jewellery establishments across the country until further notice. However, making charges will be added depending on the design and type of gold jewellery. Since VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, retailers cannot collect VAT separately from customers.

This means customers purchasing rings, necklaces, bangles, bracelets or earrings should consider both the underlying gold price and the applicable manufacturing charge.

Intricate designs and labour-intensive craftsmanship may result in higher making charges. Consumers should therefore request a clear breakdown of the final invoice before making payment.

Existing Rules for Jewellery Exchange and Purchase

For jewellery exchange and purchase, excluding specified VAT, making charges and the value of stones, the previous BAJUS rules will remain in effect.

This provision is particularly relevant to customers exchanging old jewellery for new ornaments. The weight and purity of the old jewellery, along with applicable deductions, can influence the final transaction value.

For jewellery containing gemstones, the value of the gold and the value of the stones should be clearly distinguished. Transparent billing is essential for consumers.

Silver Prices Remain Unchanged

While gold prices have been adjusted, silver prices have not changed.

Although gold prices have been adjusted, there has been no change in silver prices. Currently, 22-carat silver is being sold at Tk 5,074 per bhori including VAT. The price of 21-carat silver is Tk 4,841 per bhori, while 18-carat silver costs Tk 4,199 per bhori. Silver under the traditional method is being sold at Tk 3,149 per bhori.

The current silver rates are:

Silver purityPrice per bhori

22-caratTk 5,074
21-caratTk 4,841
18-caratTk 4,199
Traditional methodTk 3,149

What Buyers Should Know

Gold prices can change quickly, making it important to verify the latest BAJUS rate before purchasing. However, the quoted price per bhori is only one component of the total cost of jewellery.

Customers should verify the weight, purity, making charge and VAT treatment. For high-value purchases, obtaining a detailed receipt is strongly advisable. The document should clearly state the jewellery’s weight, purity, gold value and applicable making charge.

As of 19 August 2026, 22-carat gold is priced at Tk 236,779 per bhori in Bangladesh. The price of 21-carat gold stands at Tk 226,165, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk 194,206. Gold under the traditional method costs Tk 158,630 per bhori.

Meanwhile, 22-carat silver is priced at Tk 5,074 per bhori.

These rates will remain effective until BAJUS announces a fresh adjustment. Given the volatility of the bullion market, checking the latest official rate on the day of purchase remains the most prudent approach for consumers.
