Labour Minister Urges Swift Resolution of Labour-Related Complaints at Meeting with the ILO Director-General

As part of Bangladesh's ongoing efforts to strengthen its labour sector and align it with international standards, the Minister of Labour and Employment held an important meeting with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). During the meeting, the minister requested the swift, transparent, and impartial resolution of various labour-related complaints raised against Bangladesh.

The minister stated that the Government of Bangladesh has been implementing a series of reform initiatives to protect workers' rights, ensure safe working conditions, and strengthen the enforcement of labour laws. These measures have contributed to positive developments in the country's industrial and labour sectors while reinforcing compliance with international labour standards.

The meeting also focused on workers' welfare, workplace safety, social protection, and improving employer-worker relations in Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) industry as well as other export-oriented sectors. The Labour Minister emphasized that the government's objective is to ensure a safe, dignified, and rights-based working environment for all workers.

The longstanding partnership between Bangladesh and the ILO was also highlighted during the discussions. Both sides expressed optimism that the ILO would continue providing technical assistance to support labour sector development, skills enhancement, professional training, and the implementation of international labour standards.

According to experts, the timely resolution of international labour-related complaints would further strengthen global confidence in Bangladesh's labour sector. It could also enhance the country's attractiveness to foreign investment, support export growth, and improve Bangladesh's competitive position in international markets.

Stakeholders believe that sustainable progress in the labour sector can be achieved through coordinated efforts involving the government, the ILO, employers, and workers' organizations. They also expressed hope that Bangladesh will continue implementing worker-friendly policies while maintaining full compliance with internationally recognized labour standards.
